Dear Friends of Grue Lutheran Church,

Once again, you are being contacted because your family most likely has a connection to the church.  Please forward this information along to your many cousins, siblings and friends who also have a connection.

The plan is to find a person or a group to pay $5,000 for an official ND historical marker for Mancur Olson, have him awarded the ND Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider Award and be named to the Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame, all of which may increase our chances of being named to the National Register of Historic Places, which will, in turn, increase our chances of receiving one or more of several available renovation grants.

The Grue Church Project Committee and others have been busy!

  • There is now a web page: GrueChurchProject.com, which lists all the former pastors as well as history of the church, links to the Grue Church in Norway, articles about Sara Kirkeberg Raugland (painter of the altarpiece) and Mancur Olson.  Feel free to send any of your photos of the church (inside or out), historical information.

  • There is now a GoFundMe.com page.( All contributions are tax-deductible)

  • Two articles appeared in the Grand Forks Herald: March 6, 2021 Supporters of historic country church near Buxton, N.D., raising funds for its restoration written by: Ann Bailey & March 6, 2021 Renowned economist Mancur Olson is buried in Grue Cemetery near Buxton, N.D. by:  Ann Bailey

The Gyda Varden Lodge of Sons of Norway in Grand Forks voted to submit Mancur Olson's name to be included in the Norwegian-American Scandinavian Hall of Fame.  You and your local Sons of Norway can do the same. (submission form attached).

Thank you,
Grue Church Project Committee
